Purpose

Please select one (1) of the following readings that most resonated with you: “The Function of Education” by Jiddu Krishnamurti; “A Talk to Teachers” by James Baldwin; or “Only Daughter” by Sandra Cisneros.
Then, answer the following question:
What is the author’s view of the function or value of education, and how does that argument reflect your own experiences with and thoughts about school and learning? You will connect examples and evidence from the reading to your own experiences and attitudes in each body paragraph.
Remember to be specific. You want to select important quotations from the reading that illustrate the critical idea or theme, and you want to show how those quotations are relevant in your life. Use your specific experiences to make those connections instead of talking generally. For example:
GENERAL: I think Krishnamurti is right when he says that life can be our teacher.
SPECIFIC: Having to get a job when my mom got sick taught me a lot about how to be responsible, something I didn’t learn enough about in school.
